Universität zu Köln 

The Institute for Genetics (Building 301) and the neighbouring Institute for Biochemistry (Building 300) and the Botanical Institute (Building 304) are located right between the railway station Köln Süd and the tram station Dasselstraße/Bahnhof Süd (Line 9).

Some of our Genetic groups (Hoppe, Lammers, Langer and the Proteomics Facility) moved 2014 to the new CECAD Research Center (Building 69) at Joseph-Stelzmann-Straße 26.

Take the no. 9 tram at Dasselstr./Bf. Süd and get off three stops later at Lindenburg/Universitätskliniken and walk in the direction of travel. Turn right into Joseph-Stelzmann-Straße and walk straight ahead. Crossing the next street (Kerpener Straße) you will find the CECAD Research Center with house no. 26 (located directly across the street from the Max-Planck-Institut für Biologie des Alterns, no. 9b).
Tickets can be bought from ticket machines inside the tram: short distance ticket (= Ticket für Kurzstrecke): 1,90 Euro.

Ticket machines are on the platforms and even inside the trams. Specific information is available at the information desk of the Deutsche Bahn (railway system) or Kölner Verkehrsbetriebe (KVB) (underground/tram system).

The easiest connection (two stations) would be by train: ?There are several trains from "Köln Hauptbahnhof" (Hbf) to "Köln Süd". Choose the Regional Express (RE) or Regionalbahn (RB). Deutsche Bahn

Inside the train station in the main lobby (right next to the cathedral) you will find the entrance to the Underground. Get on a tram number 16 or 18 (direction "Neumarkt") and get off two stations later at "Neumarkt"; from there go upstairs to the ground level and take the tramway line 9 (direction Sülz or Universität) to "Dasselstrasse/Bhf. Süd" (three stations)

Via tramway line 9 (direction Sülz or Universität) six stations to station "Dasselstrasse/Bhf. Süd". The trip takes about 15 minutes.

You can go by tram (S-Bahn line S 13, every 20 minutes, on Sundays every 30 minutes) or train to Köln Messe Deutz. In Deutz you will arrive at ground level; walk along the platform, following the direction koelnmesse and go downstairs, to the underground. See now above: By tram from Köln Messe Deutz.?
Way back to the airport:
You can catch the S-Bahn Line S 13 (direction: Troisdorf) at Köln Hauptbahnhof or at Köln Messe Deutz. It takes 15 minutes to go from the main train station to the airport.

Take the skytrain to the railway station of the airport. There are several trains to Köln Hauptbahnhof. The trip to Köln Hauptbahnhof takes about 40 minutes.
(To skip one changeover on your way, you can also get off at "Köln Messe Deutz" and take the tram: You will arrive at ground level in Deutz; follow the direction "koelnmesse" and go downstairs, to the underground - follow the crowd and take the tramway, Line 9, direction Sülz/Universität).

If you arrive via Frankfurt, there are fast train connections (ICE) from the airport to Cologne Main Station or Köln Messe Deutz (about 1 hour); onwards journey: see above.
